You know it when you see it. That soft, blurred glow right in the center of the nail. Not a gradient that goes from one end to the other. A halo. From the inside out.
Aura nails took over TikTok and Instagram a couple of years ago. In 2026 they're still one of the most requested looks we do at Brava. Once you see them in person, you get why.

Aura nails at Brava. That glow is not a filter.
What are aura nails?
Aura nails are a gradient manicure where colour radiates from the center of the nail outward, fading softly into the base. The result looks like a glow sitting on top of your nail. Clean, blended, and a little hypnotic.
It's not ombré. Ombré transitions from tip to base in a straight line. Aura concentrates the colour in the middle and lets it breathe outward in all directions. That's what makes it different. And why it photographs so well.
The name comes from the idea of an energy field surrounding a person. Each nail gets its own halo. Depending on the colour combination, the effect can feel soft and romantic, bold and editorial, or somewhere in between.
Why does it need a proper base?
This is the part most people don't know. And it matters.
Aura nails can't be done over regular nail polish. Here's why.
Regular polish dries in the air but never fully hardens. The surface stays slightly flexible and porous. When you apply airbrush pigment over it, the colour bleeds, moves, and doesn't sit cleanly. The gradient turns muddy. The result doesn't last.
Shellac and Builder Gel are different. They cure under a UV or LED lamp and harden completely. The surface becomes smooth, sealed, and firm. Like a canvas stretched tight. The airbrush pigment lands precisely on that surface, the gradient stays exactly where you put it, and the top coat seals everything in place.
So before the aura effect goes on, we apply a full Shellac or Builder Gel base in the colour of your choice. That's your foundation. Everything else builds on top of it.
What is an airbrush and how does it work on nails?
An airbrush is a small precision tool that sprays a fine mist of colour using compressed air. In nail art, it's used to apply pigment in ultra-thin, controlled layers.
At Brava we use a professional airbrush gun. The colour is diluted slightly before use, which allows it to spray evenly and blend seamlessly into the base. We build the gradient slowly, layer by layer, concentrating the colour in the center of the nail and letting it fade outward.

Our airbrush setup at Brava. This is what makes the difference.
The result is a level of precision and smoothness that a sponge simply can't achieve. No marks. No hard edges. Just a perfectly clean gradient every time.
Most tutorials you find online use a makeup sponge. The result is fine for a DIY attempt. But it's not the same finish. Not even close.
Any colour works
One of the best things about aura nails is that there's no wrong colour. The technique adapts to anything.
Soft pink with a white center. Lavender fading into icy blue. Peach into cream. Sage green with a mint halo. Warm red. Cobalt blue. Nude with a barely-there shimmer.
We've done them all at Brava. The base colour is yours to choose. The aura colour goes on top. You can keep it tonal, two shades of the same colour, or go for contrast. Both work.

Every colour tells a different story. Come in and find yours.
Can you combine aura nails with other nail art?
Yes. And it looks great.
Aura nails work as a standalone look, but they also pair well with other add-ons. A French tip on top of an aura base. Fine line details. Nail art on one or two accent nails with aura on the rest.
If you have something in mind, bring a reference. We'll tell you what works and what doesn't.

You can combine Aura Nails with Charms… They look so good together!
How long do aura nails last?
It depends on your base.
With Shellac, aura nails last two to three weeks. With Builder Gel, you're looking at three to four weeks, sometimes a little longer if you take care of your nails. Avoid picking, use cuticle oil regularly, and wear gloves for cleaning.
The airbrush pigment is sealed under a top coat, so it doesn't fade or chip on its own. What you're really maintaining is the base underneath.
What does it cost?
Aura nails is a €13 add-on on top of your base service.
With a Shellac Express (€30) you're at €43 total. With a Builder Gel service the price varies depending on what you choose. We'll always confirm the full price before we start.
